Wine of the Week
This week’s wine is Castaño Hécula Monastrell. Bodegas Castaño is one of the most respected wine producers in southeastern Spain, renowned for their tradition and achievements in the use of the indigenous grape varieties. The varietal Monastrell (In France this variety is known as Mourvédre) is perfectly adapted to the climatic and geographic conditions in Yecla, where it is able to cope with hot summers as well as prolonged and cold winters. It is in the conditions offered by this high plane area where the Mediterranean climate and that of the continent converge, that Hécula Monastrell takes on its color, body, structure and smoothness.
This wine earned a 90 point rating from Steven Tanzer, and has an intense cherry red color with an elegant fruity expression of plum, fig and red berries. It is soft and silky on the palate, embodying smooth, ripe tannins and a long, pleasant finish.
Monastrell pairs well with red meats, spicy pork preparations, grilled vegetables, and tomato-based sauces.
We encourage you to take advantage of the deep savings on a go-to winner of a wine. You will be sure to endear yourself to all those who raise a glass in your company.
