In-'Haus Events and Tastings

Friday Night Flights

What a great way to begin the weekend!  Come down to the Weinhaus on the last Friday of the month between 5:30-7:30 and taste a “flight” of 4 different wines, each with its own special character and personality.  We will serve some light hors d’oeuvres along with the wine.  This is a good learning opportunity, as well, to help you understand wine in general and more about your tastes, too.

Friday, January 27, 2012 – Winter Reds. Our Autumnal Red tasting in the fall was jettisoned in favor of our “Warehaus Sale”. So we will duplicate the theme in mid-winter. This tasting will focus on heavier bodied red wines. We will choose selections from around the world. So while the wines will all share a large profile, we aim to show their uniqueness rather than similarity.

Friday, February 24 – Bordeaux’s Forgotten Grape. Carmenère was originally one of the grapes used to blend the red wines of Bordeaux. When the phylloxera louse devastated France, the variety was not replanted. Luckily, pre-phylloxera vines had already been exported to Chile. The vines were long thought to be Merlot in its new home. Only in the last twenty years, was the grape discovered as its true identity. Come experience a taste of history.

Friday, March 30 – Springtime in Spain. We all think of Spain for their red wines, but what about their sparkling wines and lovely, acidic white wines. As the forsythia blooms, we will offer an evening of wines that are lighter on the palate. The transition to lighter fares and longer evenings lead us to wines that are less dense on the palate. This evening will travel from cava, through white, to light-bodied red wine.

Friday, April 27 – Treasures of Verona. The northeast of Italy offers a treasure trove of unique wines. Come experience the variety of the regions oenological splendors.

All Friday Night Flights are $10 for 4 tasting pours and light food.  Your favorite of the 4 may be added in a full pour for an additional $5.

Weinhaus by the Glass!

If you've been in lately you may have noticed our tables and new winekeeper systems. We're now serving wine by the glass all the time!
We have a rotating menu of wines on tap, and if you're with your friends you're welcome to try any bottle in the store for a 10% corkage fee (min $5). Compare that to the typical 100%+ markups over retail prices in any restaurant or bar and you'll see it's one heck of a deal!
